It’s "Main Character Summer" again, and my sequel is shaping up to be better than the original. I’m still leaning into a “vacation mindset” and trying to slow down, but I’ve got a better handle on it this year. While last summer was about things like randomly noticing pretty buildings, this summer I’ve actually mapped out a couple of real routes for architecture gazing. So, here is my updated, completely unscientific guide to living it up:
The “Errand-Tainment” Upgrade: Level up your boring tasks. If you’re trapped in a long line, bring a book, a puzzle, or whatever interests you. You’re still in line, but now you’re winning.
Say Yes: See an obscure Tuesday night jazz show? Why not. Finally pop into that cute shop you always walk past? Just do it. Even if you end up at a sports game you didn't plan for, the best and worst-case scenario is a memory you didn’t expect.
Embrace the Unexpected: I struggle with the 'my pajamas are too comfy to leave the house' trap constantly. But staying in your comfort zone is usually a guarantee of exactly the same reality you had yesterday. Sometimes, the most spontaneous, “let’s just try it” decision can open the door to genuine connection. You might encounter the highlight of your year. If there’s one introvert telling you it’s worth it, it’s me 🥂
What are your plans this weekend? On a taco quest, or maybe just hitting up a bookstore? Let me know. My summer itinerary is wide open and I’m ready for your best recommendations!
Living it up doesn’t have to be fancy to be fun. You just gotta show up ✨
