Remember when I talked about being yourself on Monday? That message came to life when I caught up with my friend Melanie. Melanie’s a standout data scientist with a serious love for K-pop.

She told me all about BTS and their reunion in Korea. All seven band members—Jin, J-Hope, RM, V, Jimin, Jungkook, and Suga—will be back together after completing their military service. The official dates aren’t out yet, but that hasn’t slowed Melanie down. She’s in full prep mode, and her fandom is truly next level.

I’ll admit: my BTS knowledge pretty much starts and ends with “Dynamite.” Meanwhile, Melanie could write a thesis. She’s making keychains to gift to other fans celebrating their reunion—proof that fandom can be as much about connection as it is about the music.
